

Mission Statement
The arts are an essential and unique part of life in Louisiana to which each citizen has a right. The Louisiana Division of the Arts in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council is the catalyst for participation, education, development and promotion of excellence in the arts. It is the responsibility of the Division to support established arts institutions, nurture both emerging arts organizations and our overall cultural economy, assist individual artists, encourage the expansion of audiences and stimulate public participation in the arts in Louisiana.

- Call to Artists - Creative Capital Internet for Artists Professional Development Weekend Retreat
The Division of the Arts is pleased to partner with the Creative Capital Foundation, the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts, and the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge to present a Professional Development Weekend Retreat designed to help Louisiana artists further their professional skills. The retreat will take place at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge Friday, September 24 - Sunday, September 26, 2010. Twenty four artists will be selected to participate.

Poetry Out Loud – Louisiana State Finalists

In the picture are her Mom and Dad, along with teacher Eugenie Martin, and Theatre teacher Gary Mendoza. The Louisiana Poetry Out Loud State Finals were held on Saturday, March 7th at the Louisiana State Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. A nationwide program created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud encourages youth to learn and perform famous poems for competition against other teens, first in school finals, then in city finals and then in the state final competition. The winner of the state finals will be competing at the national competition in April, 2010.
