CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - LSU and LDOA ARTIST COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP DOCUMENT, DESIGN, AND DIGITIZE YOUR WORK FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

The Louisiana Office of Cultural Development/Division of the Arts is partnering with the LSU College of Art + Design to develop and pilot intensive professional development workshops for Louisiana visual artists and design professionals.
WE ARE SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR THE WORKSHOP, scheduled on Saturday, April 30, 2011, from 8:30am - 3:00pm, at the LSU Campus, in Baton Rouge, in the Commons (ground floor), of the Art + Design Building.
DOCUMENT, DESIGN, AND DIGITIZE YOUR WORK FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY, will help visual artists establish a written and digital presence that will take your art, ideas, and career from your studio to your desired audience. The focus of the workshop is to provide professional career development to artists of all skill levels as you move from the studio into the creative economy.
ONE-ON-ONE DIGITAL AND WRITTEN SERVICES WILL BE PROVIDED FOR ARTISTS. You will leave this workshop with professional documents such as artist statements, resume, etc.). There will be opportunities to upgrade your portfolio with basic digital documentation which will help you capture, design and distribute your future work in digital formats. LSU College of Art + Design professionals will assist you in designing materials that match the quality of your visual work. Personal and detailed attention will be paid to each artist's work.
THE WORKSHOP IS LIMITED TO 10 PARTICIPANTS. Applications will be reviewed, and selected based on evidence of professional activity as reflected in the artist resume and regarding need and impact of the training on the artist's career. You must be a visual artist or design professional, living and working in Louisiana to apply. Emerging and established artists will be accepted to the workshop. Portions of the training will be adjusted to any skill/career level. The Division of the Arts will fund the tuition/participation fees for the program for the 10 artists selected. Each participant will be responsible for your own transportation, meals and any other expenses. Based on demand; we will be adding 1 additional class at another date/time.

Creative Capital Weekend Retreat for Artists - March 25-27, 2011
The Office of Cultural Development/Division of the Arts will partner with the Creative Capital Foundation to present a Professional Development Weekend workshop for Louisiana artists in strategic planning, funding and promoting your work.
This Professional Development opportunity is designed to deliver skill-building tools to individual artists. The goal is to provide a cohesive structure that will help artists to organize, plan, and sustain their creative careers.
The retreat uses an integrated approach to cover the topics of marketing/public relations and fundraising with a particular emphasis on strategic planning for individual artists. It aims to help artists break patterns of crisis management and increase satisfaction in their art practices and careers. Opportunities are given throughout the retreat for the artists to meet one-on-one with Creative Capital staff to tailor the experience to each artist's individual needs.
The retreat will take place at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge. A small stipend will be offered to help defray the costs of travel and lodging, for those artists who are not Baton Rouge residents. Artists in all disciplines are eligible to submit a request. Twenty-four artists will be selected to participate.

Creative Capital is a New York City-based nonprofit organization founded by Ruby Lerner. It supports artists who pursue innovation in form and/or content in the performing and visual arts, film and video, and in emerging fields.
