Edmiston to serve as vice chair on Travel South USA's Executive Board

Office of Tourism chief Kyle Edmiston will serve as vice chair on Travel South USA's Executive Board for fiscal year 2016. The mission of Travel South USA is to promote, foster and encourage travel to and within its 12 member states. The long-standing regional collaboration of the state tourism offices provides a foundation to positively position tourism as a vital and dynamic element in the region's economic development.

  Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB honored as Tourism Office of the Year by Southeast Tourism Society
The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitors Bureau was awarded the Shining Example Award for Tourism Office of the Year. Presented by the Southeast Tourism Society, the award salutes the bureau's achievements in tourism during the past year, which include opening the Creole Nature Trail Adventure Point; hosting the Travel Media Showcase, a national event of media professionals; and creating My Southwest Louisiana Home, an original video and song. In total, the bureau brought in $385 million in tourism business to Calcasieu Parish.
 


  LOT seeking editorial pitch suggestions for national media
LOT and its PR contractor are seeking ideas from DMOs for potential Louisiana, regional and local travel stories to present to domestic media outlets this fall. Story pitches should be a concise summary paragraph including why an outlet's readership or viewers should care; any time-sensitive coverage information; a primary point of contact; relevant websites; and samples of photography and/or video that an outlet can reproduce. Submit pitch ideas to Jeff Richard at jrichard@crt.la.gov by Friday, Oct. 16.

The Office of Tourism is producing its 2016 first-quarter calendar of events, which includes events happening from January to March.   Houma tourism manager receives state recognition
The Houma Area Convention and Visitors Bureau's tourism manager, Hal Moser, received the Operators Choice Award at the Motor Coach Association of South Carolina's annual meeting in Concord, North Carolina. The award recognizes a continuing effort to support motor coach operators and the group tour industry, and the thriving relationship between the MCASC and Louisiana's Bayou Country.

  Hotels.com claims New Orleans is 13th in 2015 first-half travel
New Orleans was the 13th most popular American destination in the first half of 2015, according to a recently released Hotels.com study based on Hotel Price Index data. The top 10 U.S. destinations were mostly unchanged from the first half of 2014, with Southwest and Midwest destinations showing slight increases. The top five in order were Las Vegas, New York City, Orlando, San Diego and Los Angeles.

  Weather.com: Creole Nature Trail best Louisiana fall visit
Calcasieu and Cameron parishes' Creole Nature Trail was named Louisiana's best fall season visit in Weather.com's travel section. They cited birding in the corridor of a major North American migratory flyway as the prime fall offering.

During the past fiscal year, several U.S. state tourism offices had bigger budgets than ever. The 10 states with the highest budgets accounted for 55 percent of the total budget for all state tourism offices.
