Canadian sales mission generates positive press

The recent sales mission to Canada led by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, Office of Tourism officials and 28 statewide partners is still generating positive media coverage. The blitz into Toronto and Vancouver was the state travel industry's largest of its type ever.

  Signs unveiled for Teche Byway
Signage for the Bayou Teche Scenic Byway was unveiled May 3 during National Tourism Week. The byway hugs Bayou Teche in a 183-mile route through Iberia, St. Martin and St Mary parishes.
 


  1850 House reopens in New Orleans
An eight-month, $30,000 renovation is complete at the 1850 House, a Louisiana State Museum property in the French Quarter depicting upper middle class life in the city prior to the Civil War.

The Crescent City has continued the trend of earning several top honors at the annual James Beard Awards - the Oscars of the foodie world. Accolades this year included Shaya being named Best New Restaurant in the U.S. and a lifetime achievement award for Leah Chase.
 


  Air Canada MSY arrivals up 8 percent so far this year
Recent Conference Board of Canada reports indicate Air Canada arrivals at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport are up 7.7 percent for the first two months of 2016 compared to the period in the year prior. January-February saw 3,869 arrivals at MSY, up from 3,593 in 2015.


 


  Chronicle piece lauds Lake Charles gaming, nature offerings
Gaming and nature outings, big festivals and recommended food and overnight providers in Lake Charles were the focus of a recent Houston Chronicle piece.
 


IPW New Orleans   Volunteers sought for IPW
The New Orleans CVB is seeking IPW ambassadors who will assist with airport arrivals, sightseeing departures and with staffing information desks at host hotels.

  SWLACVB issues annual industry awards
The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB's annual tourism awards were announced May 5 during National Tourism Week. About two dozen stakeholders were recognized for their contributions to local and regional tourism.
 


  International travel rose to $1.4 trillion last year
Tourism receipts globally grew by 3.6 percent to $1.4 trillion in 2015, the United Nations World Tourism Organization recently announced. The Americas specifically saw solid growth due to the strength of the U.S. dollar.
 


US Homeland Security   Global Entry Program will be at IPW
U.S. Customs and Border Protection will be at IPW in New Orleans in June to conduct Global Entry Program screenings. The program grants speedy clearance for pre-approved low-risk travelers entering the U.S.
