Lt. Governor Nungesser announces 36% increase in international travel to Louisiana

Louisiana and New Orleans international tourism grew by over one-third between 2014 and 2015, putting their growth at or among the best in the U.S., recently-released federal tourism statistics indicate. Louisiana and New Orleans' foreign traveler volume grew 36 and 37 percent respectively.



  Alex Eaton crowned seafood champ
Mississippi chef Alex Eaton was crowned king of the Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans over the weekend. Eaton, of Jackson's Manship Wood Fired Kitchen, edged 10 other chefs from across the U.S. for top honors in what's billed as America's ultimate seafood cooking competition using domestic seafood from around the nation. The annual event was put on by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

  Coxwell named SETTRA chapter president
Lynne Coxwell was recently named president of the Southeast States Chapter of Travel and Tourism Research Association (SETTRA) until 2018. Coxwell's SETTRA tenure includes stints as vice-president, chair of its communications and advisory committee, and as a member of its board of directors.

  SWLACVB's Zartler honored by LHSAA
Eric Zartler, sales director at the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB, recently received the Louisiana High School Athletic Association's 2016 Distinguished Service Award. Zartler garnered the honor for his role in coordinating of LHSAA basketball, baseball, softball and swimming championships in the SWLACVB's service area.
 


  Fall 2016 "What's New in Louisiana" submissions sought
The Office of Tourism seeks contributions for "What's New in Louisiana Tourism," a document with information on new attractions, tours, trails, restaurants, overnight providers, online tools, apps, major infrastructure affecting visitors or anything else relevant to Louisiana tourism. Assets can be new, improved, expanded or renovated. To submit an asset, email Jeff Richard at jrichard@crt.la.gov by August 15. Include the asset's name, a brief description, physical address, primary contact person and contact information including a website and email address.
 


  Louisiana coast among Fox News top treasure hunter destinations
Louisiana's Gulf coast was included in a recent FoxNews.com piece on destinations for treasure hunters. The piece lauded Jefferson Island and the Lake Charles region's pirate heritage and the annual Contraband Days festival as top picks for treasure travelers.
 


  Natchitoches in USA Today 50 road trips list
Attractions and scenic beauty led USA Today to include the Natchitoches area's Cane River National Heritage Trail in its list of best American road trips in each state.
 


  Louisiana dominates Bon Appetit's 'Best New Restaurants' South category
Louisiana swept the kitchen in the "South" category of Bon Appetit's recent "Best New Restaurants" list. Of the four eateries that earned honors, three are in New Orleans and one in Lafayette.
 


  US air fares hit six-year low
U.S. airfares declined 7.8 percent in price in the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same period a year ago. Federal transportation officials add that average ticket prices in the quarter were their lowest in six years.
