General Guidelines:
  • No more than five to seven (5-7) minutes long
  • Must use images; number of images is not limited as long as presentation does not exceed time limit
  • Can also use text to make additional points, however, text is not required for every image
  • Make sure text is large enough to be easily read
  • Each image should relate to what the speaker is saying at the time
  • Can use one image to make more than one point
For all candidates, include:
  • Date of property's construction
  • Location map (obtain from SHPO)
  • Discussion of setting, if appropriate
  • Level of significance
  • Summary of reason for significance
  • Mention if applicant plans to use one of the tax credit programs
For individual buildings, include:
  • Style designation and brief discussion of stylistic features or building type (i.e., character defining features)
  • Brief discussion of historic and/or architectural context
  • Brief discussion of alterations; also provide reasons changes are not severe enough to prevent the property's acceptance to the Register
  • Brief discussion of contributing and non-contributing elements, if important
For historic districts:
  • Consult with National Register staff
