Directions: From I-10, exit onto US 90 and head south to LA 83. Continue south and turn right onto LA 319, following this road to the park. GPS Coordinates: N 29 44.2332: W 91 51.1998.

Hours of Operation: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. All park sites close at 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and days preceding holidays.

Entrance Fees: $1 per person; Free for Seniors (62 and older) and children age 3 and under

Between Grand Isle and Cameron, Cypremort Point is the only locality near the Gulf of Mexico that can be reached by car. A half-mile stretch of a man-made beach provides a delightful area for relaxing, picnicking and enjoying the water. It also affords an opportunity for fishing, crabbing, water skiing, windsurfing and, of course, sailing.

A boat launch just outside the park's entrance is only a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and fishermen can venture out to fish in the Gulf or Bay. Catches of flounder and redfish are not uncommon in the area. For those interested in fishing from the shore, a 100-foot fishing pier is situated on the Bay. Overnight visitors also have access to adjacent boat docks and a fishing cleaning station.

In addition to excellent sailing and swimming facilities, the 185-acre park also holds a special attraction for nature enthusiasts. Located in the heart of a Louisiana marsh, the site contains an abundance of wildlife. The quiet observer may happen upon nutria, muskrat, alligator or a number of bird species native to the state. Deer, black bear, rabbits, opossum and red fox also make their home in this area, so stay aware of your surroundings and you may discover more of the natural charm of Cypremort Point.

Avery Island (On LA 329, east of New Iberia) - In addition to the world-famous Tabasco Pepper Sauce factory, visitors can stroll through 200 acres of exotic gardens and see the snowy egrets that nest on "Bird Island."

Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site (LA Hwy. 31, St. Martinville) - Situated on the banks of Bayou Teche, this 157-acre park interprets the history of the French-speaking peoples of Louisiana. The park features Maison Olivier, built circa 1815, and an Acadian Farmstead and house. The visitor may see livestock, crops, kitchen and herbal gardens, living history and interpretive programs, the Visitors Center, a picnic pavilion and an outdoor classroom.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park (18 miles southeast of St. Martinville) - Located at the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin, the park offers 50 improved campsites, 18 Acadian-style waterfront cabins with fishing piers, pavilions, picnic tables, a playground and nature and walking trails through woods and swamp. A conference center is also available.

Chitimacha Indian Museum (On LA 326 in Charenton) - For centuries, Chitimacha Indians have lived by the Atchafalaya River and Grand Lake. The museum features cultural displays and a craft shop offers quality crafts.

Plantation Homes along Bayou Teche - The rich and colorful heritage of South Louisiana is kept alive in the stately plantation homes, churches and unique historic structures along Bayou Teche.

Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Museum (LA 90 in Kemper Williams Park, Patterson) - The Louisiana State Museum's collection centers around memorabilia from the lives of Louisiana aviators Jimmy Wedell and Harry Williams, along with artifacts and documents from the state's aviation history.

Original Swamp Gardens (725 Myrtle Street, Morgan City) - A guided walking tour through 3.5 acres of natural swamp depicts life in the great Atchafalaya Swamp and native animals such as deer and alligator.
