Directions: From Monroe, take either US 165 or LA 139 north to Bastrop. From Bastrop, take US 425 north to LA 1257 (Loop Park Road). Coordinates: 32.907361, -91.8484978.
Hours of Operation: Site is open daily. Gates open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and at 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and days preceding holidays.
April-September,entrance station is open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; October-March, entrance station is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Chemin-A-Haut State Park is situated on a high bluff overlooking Bayou Bartholomew and is a natural paradise for lovers of unspoiled beauty. This 503-acre site takes its name from the French word meaning "high road," which was the route used by Native Americans many years ago in their seasonal migrations.

Chemin-A-Haut State Park was designed with children in mind. Two playgrounds in the day-use area are a favorite spot of the younger patrons as is the wading pool in the swimming complex. Also, the park's swimming pool is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, so campers and picnickers can refresh themselves on hot summer days. In addition to RV and tent camping, overnight guests can also relax in cabins, some located convenient to the day-use area, while more-secluded units are located on the bayou.

The picnic area includes 35 family sites with grills and tables, five group sites (for up to 24 people), and three shelters. A hard-surfaced trail goes through the picnic area and along the high, scenic banks of Bayou Bartholomew. Rental boats afford visitors an even closer view.

Big Slough Lake, located near the edge of the park, offers an opportunity to fish from the shore. Several varieties of freshwater species can be found there. Take advantage of the beautiful seclusion of this ideal park site.

Reservable Facilities

Cabins/Group Camp: Basic cookware, cooking utensils, dinnerware, silverware, towels and linens are provided. Bring your own food and personal supplies; group camp visitors will also need to bring their own dishes, silverware, paper products, bathroom tissue, towels and linens. Standard Cabins

Deluxe Cabins
(map) 8 available; 1 is ADA compliant $120/night, Oct-Mar; $150/night on Fridays & Saturdays, Apr-Sept, sleeps up to 8 people with 1 double bed, 2 bunk beds and 1 queen sofa sleeper

Group Camp $200/night Sleeps up to 38 people

26 Improved Campsites (water and electrical hookup) (map of campsites) $16/night, Oct-Mar; $20/night, Apr-Sept

Primitive camping area (maximum capacity of 20) $20 per night; reservations can be made on-line.

America the Beautiful Senior and Access Passes (formerly Golden Age & Golden Access Passports) (Available through the National Park Service. Click here for more information)
Holders of the Passes, whose state of residence also honors the America the Beautiful pass, are entitled to a 50% reduction on camping fees at Louisiana State Parks. (Passport holders are allowed one site per passport).

Fishing
§ During the 2013 and 2014 fishing seasons (April 1 to October 1), you will only be able to catch and keep Bream, Red Ear and Blue Gill; all other fish must be released immediately.

§ Fishing will be allowable *only* from the banks; no fishing from boats is allowed. Kayaks and canoes will be allowed on the lake for recreational and sightseeing use only. No fishing from these water craft will be allowed.

§ All fishing in the lake shall be done using barbless hooks. Commercially available barbless hooks are preferred, but filed and mashed-down hooks are acceptable.

§ All fishers over 16 years of age are required to possess a valid Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF) fishing permit. All LDWF rules and regulations regarding fishing are to be adhered to, at all Louisiana State Parks.

§ The shorelines around cabins 7 through 14 is off limits to day use guests and is reserved for cabin occupants only.

§ No cleaning of fish will be allowed on park grounds.

Kayaks (single seat) $5 per hour or $20 per day includes paddle and life jacket

Additional life jackets can be rented for $1 each where available

Swimming Pool

Pools are open Memorial Day weekend to August 1 and closed Mondays and Tuesdays for maintenance, except for holiday Mondays. When pools are open on a holiday Monday, the pools will be closed for maintenance on the Tuesday and Wednesday following the holiday Monday.

From August 1 through Labor Day, pools will be open on modified schedules. Please check with the individual parks for specific days and hours of operation. All pool schedules are subject to change.

Lake D'Arbonne State Park (5 miles west of Farmerville on LA 2) - A fisherman's paradise, this 655-acre state park on the shores of Lake D'Arbonne features 65 improved campsites, 50 picnic tables and grills, 3 fishing piers, a boat ramp and a fish cleaning station.

Poverty Point State Historic Site (East of Monroe and north of I-20 on LA 577 northeast of Epps) - The site is considered one of the most significant archaeological finds in the country. It has a complex of Native American ceremonial mounds built between 1700 and 700 B.C. A museum and guided tours interpret a culture that once flourished on the site.

Poverty Point Reservoir State Park (3 miles north of Delhi/I-20 on LA 17) – A marina and beach area, along with a fully-stocked man-made lake, makes this an ideal spot for a variety of watersport activities. The site also offers 4 lodges for overnight visitors.

Handy Brake National Wildlife Refuge (6 miles North of Bastrop on Cooper Lake Road) - Wildlife viewing is made easy with an observation tower. The site is open daylight hours only.

Lake Claiborne State Park (7 miles southeast of Homer on LA 146) - Located on the banks of a 6,400-acre lake. With steep ravines and rolling hills, the park features excellent picnicking, pavilions, 10 vacation cabins, 87 improved campsites, a swimming beach, boat launch, fishing pier, and nature trails.

Jimmie Davis State Park at Caney Lake (Off LA 4 southwest of Chatham, on Lakeshore Drive and State Road 1209) - Situated on an outstanding bass-fishing lake, the park offers camping, picnicking, 2 boat ramps, a fishing pier, a swimming beach and is an ideal spot to launch biking expeditions.
