Bayou Segnette: About a 20 minute drive from downtown New Orleans, you’ll find a picturesque wetland area with a range of recreational activities – from large picnic area to a wavepool (open Memorial Day through Labor Day) and several playgrounds for kids. Bayou Segnette State Park has a variety of accommodations. Twenty waterfront cabins provide creature comforts, while nearly a hundred campsites with water and electrical hookups provide all you’ll need for a fun-filled camping trip.
South Toledo Bend: With abundant, scenic water views, a variety of outdoor recreational activities, and diverse accommodations, South Toledo Bend Reservoir State Park is the perfect choice for outdoors enthusiasts. The park offers visitors the perfect setting for hiking, cycling, birding and enjoying area’s many forms of wildlife. Plus, since the reservoir is nationally recognized as a top spot for bass fishing with several tournaments each year, the park is a paradise for anglers.
Poverty Point State Historic Site: The oldest human dwelling site in North America, Poverty Point, is located in Epps, Louisiana. Constructed between 1650 and 700 B.C., this site of more than 400 acres is unique among archaeological sites on this continent. The central construction consists of six rows of concentric ridges, which at one time were five feet high and are thought to have served as foundations for dwellings. The diameter of the outermost ring measures about three-quarters of a mile. Attractions include an interpretive museum, programs and guided tours.
