|  | |  | | | Trade Beads | | | These beads were found at the base of a large pit feature, along with a large religious medal depicting St. John of Matha, chicken egg shell fragments, and a wick trimmer. It is possible that the beads were strung in a necklace, with the religious medal at the end. The intentional placement of all these artifacts at the bottom of the pit may be related to curandería, or folk healing. A typical bead has a length of 1.3 cm and a diameter of 0.47 cm. | | Photo credit: George Avery
