1981 Excavations at Los Adaes
Dr. Hiram F. "Pete" Gregory is shown here shovel skimming an area to prepare for photographs and drawing. This area is the kitchen/house complex area south of the eastern bastion of the presidio. Shovel skimming is one of the more critical excavation techniques. Only a very small amount of material is removed with each skim, and the removal must be as level as possible to provide the best "read" of the soils.
