I find it interesting that any structure dating back to 1940 or older is deserving of preservation but the Mid Century Modern movement that prospered in this City is all but being eradicated at the expense of personal taste. The structure exemplifies practical building standards in a post Katrina New Orleans strapped with flood concerns and should stand as a model of how to build moving forward in the context of this vunerable city. Instead, for the sake of something new, we prepare to remove an easily repairable structure to build a new stryofoam box that will inherently cost too much and not last the fifiy plus years this building has remianed against the backdrop of drastic neglect and deferred maintenance. I find it laughable that the RSD cannot find the foresight to rehabilitate the building or auction it off for another use if the building cannot be landbanked. Frankly, this building should have been submitted to be placed on the historic national protection list as a great work of architecture but again this city cannot repsect anything modern; we only delight in preserving buildings that were made prior to WWII. It is a travesty. Please reconsider the demolition of this amazing building as a surviving template for post Katrina school construction in this region.
