The current architectural discourse among many design professionals in New Orleans, the United States, and the world is centered on the long term goals of sustainability and mitigation issues. Thomy Lafon Elementary School is a prime example of how to build responsibly in New Orleans and the gulf region.
If one questions the inherent historical significance, move over the industrial canal to a "new" neighborhood that could be considered the grandchild of the Thomy Lafon Elementary School.
Since the Thomy Lafon Elementary School's completion many advances in technology and hurricane mitigation techniques have been made. If this building were to remain and have these systems and technologies implemented, it would undoubtedly serve as a prime historical and contemporary solution of architecturally responsible New Orleans building stock.
Please do not allow further degradation of this city's architectural history by demolishing what is a valuable piece of building stock. |
