Comments: I am a Bywater resident and homeowner. I'm not sure what will be going into this park as far as recreation facililties but Skate parks can literally change the lives of young people. There has been an explosion of skate parks being built around the country in the last 10-15 years with absolutely astounding results for kids who need and want them. There are numerous documentaries about the effects these parks have on their communities. Skating has been in style in various incarnations since the 60's and there are many, many kids in New Orleans without that "place to go" hang out with friends, work on their tricks, and have a good time. Skateboarding down Decatur st. in traffic does not count. There is a great park in Hammond, LA. Ask around, you will hear nothing but praise about it and what it has done inspiring the youth to stay off the streets and have a focus while getting great exercise and having a blast doing it. Skateboarders are an interesting type. They LOVE to skate and respect their skate spots.
