Comments: The Audubon School renovation project, in my opinion, will have an extremely detrimental impact on the historical value of the neighborhood and offers little to no mitigation of that negative impact. The caretaker's cottage is a charming 2 story building of historical value. I have lived in the neighborhood most of my life and the school, as designed and built in the early 1900's fits in perfectly with the neighborhood. The proposed plan would destroy a building of historical value to replace it with a modern, obtrusive building that will significantly alter the character of the neighborhood. Neighbors 2 to 3 blocks away from the school never received notice of the public hearings to school held to vet the project. We were not provided a forum to discuss the full impact of the project in a timely manner. The admission process of the school does not give preference to the admission of neighborhood children. Most of the under-privileged children in the neighborhood must attend lower performing public schools. Almost none are admitted to Audubon School. Consequently, I believe the neighborhood is being forced to bear the burden of the lost of historical and aesthetic value with little or no true benefit.
