Comments:	Before demolishing the House of Detention, I urge FEMA to consider allowing writers and photo documentarians access to the interior of the structure to capture its historical significance in our community. My organization is working to explore and create alternatives to incarceration, homelessness and death for people living with serious mental illnesses. It would be incredibly valuable to our mission to demonstrate to the public the need for better solutions than past conditions in which people with serious mental illnesses were kept while incarcerated at facilities like the House of Detention. Sadly, all too often, history is repeated due to the failures of capturing past mistakes. Photos are powerful images that can help viewers see the world in a different way. Photographs have played a significant role in shaping a more just world throughout history. Let us not discard this precious moment to impact history.
