11/3/2018 to 11/4/2018 • Port Hudson State Historic Site, Jackson - Scout Weekend, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. All scouts (Girl, Brownie, Boy, and Cub) are invited to to earn either the Port Hudson Historic Trail or the Port Hudson Nature Trail patches, free of charge. Civil War small arms will be given during the day. A Civil War campsite will be set up to allow scouts to see what camp life was like for the soldier in the 1860s. 1/6/2019 • Port Hudson State Historic Site, Jackson - Firepower!, 1 p.m. The Port Hudson State Historic Site will conduct demonstrations with Civil War era original and reproduction weapons. The program will start with a cannon demonstration followed by small arms; muskets, rifles, carbines, and pistols. 1/19/2019 • Port Hudson State Historic Site, Jackson - Bird Walks for Beginners, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Birding is a great way to explore Port Hudson State Historic Site. Participants are encouraged to bring water, insect repellent, appropriate footwear, a notebook, some binoculars if you have some and a hat. People of all ages and skill levels are welcomed. First Saturday of the Month • 2/2/2019 to 6/30/2019 • Port Hudson State Historic Site, Jackson - 1st Saturday of the Month Hike, 10 a.m. Meet at the Visitor Center and join a park ranger on a guided hike of the battlefield area known as Artillery Ridge. 2/16/2019 • Port Hudson State Historic Site, Jackson - Native Guard Battlefield Tour, 10 a.m. In honor of Black History Month, join a park ranger on a guided hike of the Telegraph Road area where the African-American troops of the 1st and 3rd Louisiana Native Guards fought on May 27, 1863. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear, bring drinking water, appropriate clothing and insect repellent. This hike is across rough, uneven, brushy, and sometimes muddy ground.
