9/15/2018 • Louisiana State Arboretum, Ville Platte - Compass Scavenger Hunt, 2 p.m. Visitors will then embark on an adventure through the Arboretum using a map and compass. This program will discuss their traits, their role in the habitats of Louisiana, and their cultural impact throughout history. 9/29/2018 • Louisiana State Arboretum, Ville Platte - Squirrels, 2 p.m. Come learn about the types of squirrels that reside in the Arboretum, how they live in the wild, and why they are so important to the forest. 9/29/2018 • Louisiana State Arboretum, Ville Platte - Is This Tree Going to Hit My House?, 10 a.m. As the title suggests come to see if your tree is going to hit your house or simply come to learn how to measure trees. Program participants will learn how to measure tree height, diameter, and density. Participants will be allowed to try out some of the tools that foresters use to measure trees and will even learn how to measure trees in their own yard. Visitors will get a quick training on how to find clues, and then will look for clues of the critters that call the Arboretum home.
