2009 Louisiana Culture Award Recipients

The following individuals and organizations were honored by Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu at an awards ceremony on October 29, 2009 as a kick off event in New Orleans for the Louisiana Cultural Economy Summit and the World Cultural Economic Forum. These recipients were selected based on their valuable contributions to Louisiana's authentic culture and its unique role in the state's identity and economy.

Division of Archaeology

The Division of Archaeology operates under three mandates: the federal National Historic Preservation Act, the state Archaeological Resources Act and the state Unmarked Burial Sites Act. These responsibilities relate to recording, protecting, and distributing information about the state's archaeological resources.

Division of the Arts

The Division of the Arts is responsible for the development and promotion of the arts for the benefit of all people of Louisiana. This is accomplished through several grants programs that award funds to Louisiana artists and arts organizations to help provide arts activities statewide.

The Cultural Economy Initiative, an effort of the Office of the Lt. Governor and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of Cultural Development, supports the development of creative industries as a viable sector of Louisiana’s economy. CODOFIL

OCD is proud to welcome The Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL) as its newest division, effective July 1, 2006! CODOFIL was created in 1968 by the state legislature, because of the vast number of native French speakers in Louisiana. According to Legislative Act No. 409, CODOFIL is empowered to "do any and all things necessary to accomplish the development, utilization, and preservation of the French language as found in Louisiana for the cultural, economic and touristic benefit of the state."
