Tew Lake comprises three dome-shaped mounds on Wallace Ridge near an oxbow of the Ouachita River. The two mounds (Mds. A and B) south of the road are about 4 feet tall and 110 feet on their long axis. The third mound (Md. C), north of the road, has been reduced by plowing to about 21⁄2 feet tall. Weathering of the soil in all three, along with an abundance of Archaic artifacts (projectile points and stone beads) and the absence of ceramics, indicate that the mounds date to about 3000 BC (Archaic period).
