Ann was born in Ville Platte, Louisiana to Hurley and Shirley Vidrine on March 13, 1961. When Ann turned eight her mother, acting on a hunch, gave her a guitar. Within months Ann was playing in her uncle Eloi Vidrine´s Cajun fiddle band. Ann´s grandfather, Leon "La Pip" Vidrine, was also a self-taught Cajun fiddler. In 1983, Ann graduated with a Marketing degree from LSU. In 1989 she launched her performing and lecturing career. She was awarded the Folklife Fellowship Award from the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism to study with master Cajun Fiddler, Oran "Doc" Guidry. In 1990, she released her first recordings, Ann Vidrine Cajun Classics, and was nominated for Best Female Vocalist in the Cajun French Music Awards in Lafayette. She has presented her entertaining and educational cultural program called The Cajun Experience since 1983. In 1995, this unique cultural heritage program evolved into her internationally recognized Cajun Fiddler Walking Tour for passengers from the riverboats docking in historic downtown Baton Rouge. Tourists, visitors and students are Ann´s favorite audiences because they enjoy being engaged, interacting, and experiencing "joie de´ vive" for themselves. Ann´s tours, school presentations, and special events performances are jam-packed with lots of Cajun fiddling and "hands-on" activities such as old-time Cajun fiddle bow construction.
