Comments: I completely oppose the demolition of Thomy Lafon Elementary. The proposal to raze this incredible piece of mid-century modern architecture for GREEN SPACE encapsulates all of the short-sightedness and lack of vision which have degraded our historic built environment for decades. This building is clearly eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and, as such, would be eligible for both federal and state historic tax credits for its renovation. Why rob this community of the opportunity to reuse this building? More often then not, isolated green spaces end up as under-utilized, trash-ridden voids, be they downtown, in the suburbs, or in the C. J. Peete Public Housing Complex. This building's preservation is the BEST solution for this neighborhood.
