Comments: Some folks greatly interested in historic preservation have pointed out to me that our web site might be a very source of information for FEMA to use in assessing the cultural/historical value of various New Orleans neighborhoods. Our web site www.gnocdc.org has 2000 Census data about all 73 New Orleans neighborhoods, but more importantly, for each we have written a "neighborhood snapshot" which attempts to capture some of the unique features of the neighborhood as well as some of its history. Here is an example of one of our neighborhood snapshots. http://www.gnocdc.org/orleans/4/42/index.html

I think if you review each of the snapshots on our web site, you'll have a lot of the information you next. To access each, from our home page, scroll down to the map of Orleans Parish. Click on any planning district. Then click on any neighborhood. And at the top of the neighborhood page you'll see the first paragraph of the "snapshot" as well as a link to read the entire snapshot. You can access each of the 73 neighborhood snapshots in this manner.

I hope this information is helpful to you.
