Comments: We lived on Chamberlain Drive for 17 years, a block from the church. The steeple of the church was my daily view from my back yard; even after tropical storm Cindy left the cross hanging (before Katrina), the cross was never repaired by the parish or the archdiocese. My son attended Cabrini School and made his first communion there. My husband attended daily Mass at the Church. I am not a disinterested outsider. The controversy about the historic nature of the church is not the real issue. The Cabrini Church buidling does not qualify as an historical landmark in our opinion. Rather, I think the controversy is about the warm religious images and memories folks have about Cabrini Church and the grief and anger that some members of the parish are experiencing at the decision of the Archdiocese to close the parish and permit the church to be torn down. A natural result of this grief process is also denial and bargaining. They are looking to find any way, realistic or not, to bring the church back. This is not going to happen--the Archdiocese has been very clear on this. FEMA is being dragged into this "church" fight. My family's personal wishes are that the church be torn down. We would like to rebuild on our property, and the successful re-location of Holy Cross High School to Paris Avenue will make that an easier decision. The Archdiocese is not going to save the church. If Holy Cross does not build there, then who will? That is of grave concern to us. The LRA is ready to offer us a grant. The clearing and rebuilding of the Cabrini site with a reputable institution like Holy Cross High School is an important factor in our decsion making.

We are witholding our names due to the threatening tenor of some of the other postings.
