Name: Mary Alice Kennedy
City: New Orleans, LA
Cabrini, 5500 Paris Ave
Comments: FEMA, In spite of the fact that Cabrini's detractors question its significance "it is what it is". It is a building eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. It was not so damaged by Katrina that it is not salvageable. Cabrini can and should be saved. I am sorry that Holy Cross feels that the structure detracts from their vision of a new campus; but, it makes no sense to tear down a building because you don't like the way it looks. Holy Cross should consider itself lucky that there are people willing to restore such an asset. No one is trying to keep Holy Cross out of Gentilly, we are asking that Holy Cross consider that ripping the heart out of this neighborhood is not a propitious beginning.

Tearing down Cabrini will have a detrimental effect that can't be countered by a school whose students will not live in Gentilly, whose parents will not shop in Gentilly and whose families will not move to Gentilly. The only change that will occur is that you will have a new school and parents who are changing their car pool route. This will not revive a neighborhood. Tearing Cabrini down is not mitigating damage.

Save Cabrini for the ages.
