St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church
Comments: This church is not a historical example of what "should be," but of what "should never be." It was ill-conceived from the beginning. Please ask any Cabrini congregational member about the terrible expense of operation and maintenance of this church over its 40-year history. "Great architecture" must mean something more than simply clever elements of design. It must also mean "appropriate" features for the intended use.

Just one example of what was wrong is Cabrini's roof, which, although structurally unusal, never served the congregation well. The materials of that roof are not truly roofing materials. It never stopped leaking for any significant time.

Academics should be allowed to document how Cabrini, which was something worthwhile on paper, was in fact a failure in its role as a parish church. And it should be torn down, so that something new, important, and remarkable can be put there.
