Comments: what's impotant to note is that the age of the church is representative of the neighborhood and blends with the architecture in the surrounding area, which was developed from the 40's to the 60's. holy cross school wants to tear down the church because it won't blend with the design for their new campus, which is to mimic their old campus, built in the 1880's. where is the logic there? in the 1880's gentilly was a swamp, was it not? why is holy cross leaving the lower 9th ward in the first place? it's historic location, along the river, had less water than where it wants to relocate. there seems to be a lot of support for the move to gentilly, as it will help in the redevelopment of the neighborhood. what about the redevelopment of the lower 9, whose residents have supported holy cross for 120 years?
