Comments: It is incomprehensible to me that preservationists and the city allowed the Rivergate to be demolished to make room for a casino at the foot of Canal St. Similar in form to the concrete roof which is attracting such attention on Cabrini church, the rivergate's roof actually was historically important. At the time it was comprised of the world's largest single largest piece of pured concrete, yet it was demolished. In a post-katrina world, the balance between preservation and progress is an even more difficult balance to strike. While certainly important to residents, there is no valid preservationist rationale to prevent Holy Cross from tearing down the structure.
