National Tourism Week statewide tour underway

The Lieutenant Governor's statewide media tour during National Tourism Week began today. Stops include Port Allen, Lafayette, St. Francisville, New Orleans, Houma, Morgan City, Opelousas, Alexandria, Natchitoches, Ruston, Monroe, Shreveport, Lacassine and Lake Charles.

  Toronto, Vancouver blitzed by Louisiana mission
Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, Office of Tourism officials and DMOs from 14 destinations conducted the Louisiana travel industry's largest-ever sales mission in Canada last week. The delegation concentrated on Toronto and Vancouver, two large visitor-generating markets in Louisiana's largest overall international market.

  Essence Festival promo ops available to DMOs
Limited opportunities remain for DMOs to exhibit in Louisiana's booth at this year's Essence Festival June 30-July 3 in New Orleans. There are three tiers of participation, the highest of which earns the destination a full-page of complimentary ad space, valued at $121,000, in a Louisiana feature package to be published by Essence later this year.   Equine tourism sites information sought
The Louisiana Office of Tourism is seeking information on all equine tourism and horse venues statewide. Details on attractions and facilities should be submitted to Lynne Coxwell at lcoxwell@crt.la.gov by May 16.

  Shreveport gets USA Today nod for business travel
A recent USA Today piece on the most expensive U.S. cities gave an indirect nod to Shreveport's position on the spectrum's other end.

  Breaux Bridge, Natchitoches earn small town honors
Southern Living recently included Breaux Bridge and Natchitoches in their list of best small towns for 2016. Natchitoches also lead a list of "cutest Main Streets" in America recently published by woman's lifestyle site PureWow.com.

  Prestigious Italian travel mag profiles Louisiana
Acclaimed Italian travel monthly Dove recently published a piece detailing stops along a traveler's road trip from Houston to New Orleans. Publishers said a similar piece is scheduled to run in Corriere della Sera, the magazine's sister national newspaper.

  Global Entry Program will be at IPW
U.S. Customs and Border Protection will be at IPW in New Orleans in June to conduct Global Entry Program screenings. The program grants speedy clearance for pre-approved low-risk travelers entering the U.S.

  U.S. Travel offers Zika virus toolkit
The U.S. Travel Association has created an online Zika Toolkit, with talking points and expert quotes for use in communicating about the virus with consumers, stakeholders and officials.

  Direct booking a major hotel focus
Industry analysts say tech-savvy hotels are taking on online travel agencies on their own turf, taking care of consumers and not making enemies in the OTA sector.
