DESIGN GUIDELINES AND HISTORIC CONTEXT

In 2010, the Louisiana Office of Community Development (LAOCD) provided funding to the Office of Cultural Development (OCD) to address the potential adverse effect of the Road Home Program on historic properties in compliance with a 2007 Programmatic Agreement among the LAOCD, the LA State Historic Preservation Officer, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, and the Tunica Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana regarding the implementation of the Road Home and other Residential Programs to address damages caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Part of the funding allowed the Division of Historic Preservation (Division) an opportunity to establish design guidelines with and for 11 Main Street/Certified Local Government Districts. Additionally, the Division was able to secure historic contexts for eight themes associated with historic properties in our state. They are provided here as well.

We hope this information will serve our constituents well, as spaces, places and communities continue to evolve through historic preservation and redevelopment efforts.
