Applications & Guidelines

BOUNDARY CHANGE APPLICATIONS OPEN APRIL 24

The Louisiana Cultural Districts Program opens for new applications and boundary changes once a year. The full application for new Cultural Districts is a two part process.
  • Part 1: New applicants will need to submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) via Submittable. Applicants that follow guidelines and adequately answer LOI questions will be invited to submit a full application. The LOI Guidelines can be found here. The deadline for LOIs is April 10.
  • Part 2: New applicants invited to submit a full application will need to do so via Submittable. The Application Guide can be found here.
  • Applications for boundary changes in existing districts open on April 24. Applicants seeking a boundary change should be up to date on reporting. The boundary change application can be found here.

If you will be applying for certification or a boundary change, it is recommended that you first set up a meeting with the Director of Civic Design & Cultural Districts, Francesca Vega (fvega@crt.la.gov).

Local governments may designate a geographic area and apply to the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism for certification as a Cultural District.

Potential applicants should review the guidelines carefully for program specifications and application procedures including:

  • Criteria for certification
  • Important details about the tax incentives
  • Definitions of terms
  • Timeframes and deadlines
  • Instruction about how to apply
  • Annual reporting requirements
  • Business list requirements
